Mabati’ scandal
Mr Lugoloobi, between February 1, 2023, and March 16, 2023, at OPM Stores in Namanve and at different places in Matugga, Wakiso District and Ntenjeru Constituency, Kayunga District, handled suspect property, that is, 300 pre-painted iron sheets marked “Office of the Prime Minister”.
His attempt to file for bail suffered a blow when the magistrate said he needed more time to peruse the documents his lawyers had submitted to the court.
The State Minister for Planning and Ntenjeru North Member of Parliament Amos Lugoloobi has been arraigned before the Anti-corruption court and remanded to Luzira prison on charges related to the diversion of iron sheets that were meant to benefit the vulnerable communities of Karamoja.
Minister Lugoloobi, who pleaded not guilty to charges of dealing with suspect property, is the second minister to be charged concerning the Karamoja Iron Sheets. Arrest over Karamoja Iron Sheets Scandal
In April 2023, Amos Lugoloobi became the second minister in President Museveni’s cabinet to be arrested over the Karamoja iron sheets scandal. According to police spokesperson Fred Enanga, the office of the DPP sanctioned criminal charges against him following ongoing investigations into the alleged theft and diversion of Iron sheets meant for the Karamoja region. He was detained at Kira Division, pending court.
