Controversies
Mayor Ali Mulyanyama blasted his opponent Moses Kalungi before the 2021 General elections for reprimanding him for having a good working relationship with the Division town clerk as well as Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Technical wing.
Mayor Ali referred to Kalungi as a political failure and daydreamer who diverted the taxpayer’s money to his personal needs.
Kalungi Moses retorted to this by saying that Haji Ali Mulyanyama was a P.5 dropout and could not even conduct his council meetings in English.
He also claimed that Mulyanyama’s most significant achievement was working in the UK as a cleaner before being deported to Uganda, unlike him, a local investor.

He went ahead to label Mulyanyama as a sexual maniac who did not provide child support to the women whom he had impregnated.
Mayor Mulyanyama disclosed that the Court did nothing extraordinary to allow elected officials to swear in a language they are fluent in during the swearing-in ceremony in May 2021.
He asked judges to issue rules allowing leaders to swear in using the language they are most comfortable with. Muslims were urged by Mayor Ali Mulyanyama to advocate for the pardon and release of other Muslims who were imprisoned, including Sheikh Jamilu Mukulu and
Sheikh Yunus Kamoga.
He added that he will not be afraid to advocate for Muslim brethren because the government once intended to pardon LRA leader Joseph Kony.

He claimed that former MP Kipoi was arrested and charged with treason but released on bail. He then urged Muslims to donate money to support Muslim prisoners and widows in need.
Mulyanyama is alleged to have taken the money that was paid in compensation by the World Bank for the Lukuli road for himself. He convinced KCCA that he was the best person to negotiate with the land owners who were to be compensated but upon receiving the money from KCCA he couldn’t be traced for a while.
Mayor Ali threatened to challenge Erias Lukwago for the position of Lord Mayor in 2026 and remove him from office. He claimed that while every Ugandan has the right to run for office, Lukwago shouldn’t be treated as infallible by having the position ring-fenced.
