Early Life and Education
Lawrence Mulindwa was born on March 27, 1956, in Kanyike Kamengo in the Central Ugandan district of Mpigi. He was born to the late Edward Mulindwa (father) and Catherine Mulindwa Nakyejwe (mother) both from Kamengo.
He resided there with his parents before relocating to pursue his education.
Lawrence Mulindwa is a Muganda by tribe and a staunch Catholic by religion. He has been married to Milly Mulindwa the sister to Hardware World boss Sekankya for over 25 years.
He has many children and some of them include; Carol Mulindwa who graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management at the University of Surrey in London, UK on July 21, 2021.
The other daughter is Claire Mulindwa married to James Ndugwa and also holds a Master’s degree from the same University in London.
Mulindwa’s son, Steven Mulindwa also graduated with a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the same University on July 16th 2021.
Lawrence Mulindwa attended his primary school in Kamengo before enrolling in Namilyango College and Makerere University to earn a degree in statistics. Later, he went on to earn a postgraduate teaching diploma and a master’s in business administration.
Career and Professional Work Experience
Lawrence Mulindwa began his career in administration in 2000 while serving as Chairman of Bunamwaya FC, which is currently known as Vipers SC up to 2004.
Subsequently, he passed over that responsibility to Tadeus Kitandwe and went on to win the FUFA presidency on December 17, 2005, after defeating Chris Rwanika, who was his direct challenger.
In 2013, he left FUFA to focus on Vipers SC to make it the strongest football team in Uganda and on the continent of Africa. As a result, the team won four Uganda Premier league championships as well as the Uganda Cup, Fufa Super Cup, and Fufa Super 8 Cup.
Mulindwa officially became the first Ugandan to purchase St. Mary’s Stadium-Kitende in March 2017. The Venoms’ 1-0 victory over the South African Platinum Stars in the CAF Confederation Cup served as the event’s formal public debut.
It was increased to include 600 additional VIP seats for a total of 1,500 VIP seats and 25,000 total seats, making it Uganda’s second-largest stadium
Dr Lawrence Mulindwa was awarded an honorary doctorate from the London Graduate School on 13th December 2018 in recognition of his contributions to the growth of sports and education. He received the award during the 15th Dubai Leadership Summit in the United Arab Emirates.
During Lawrence Mulindwa’s FUFA Presidency term, he recovered the land title for the FUFA House in Mengo as part of his settlement of outstanding debts for the Federation.
